Adapted Alternative Mouse

Along with keyboards, the mouse has become the standard mechanism for interacting with computers, but for some people with physical, sensory, or cognitive impairments, utilizing a mouse can be difficult or impossible.  Adapted and alternative mouse devices have been developed to allow people to move the computer cursor or system focus in a more appropriate method for their given skills and abilities.

Some of the most common options include:

  • Ergonomic mice

  • Trackball

  • Touchpads/trackpads

  • Pen mice

  • Graphics tablets

  • Joysticks

  • Touchscreens

  • Head movement tracking

  • Eye tracking systems

  • Foot mouse systems

  • Mouth-controlled systems
